The enthusiastic and self motivated students of KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research (SIMSR) participated in the "Joy of Giving Week" by organizing a Stationary collection drive. The Joy of Giving Week is a "festival of giving" that aims to bring together Indians all across the country and abroad through different acts of giving- money, time, skills or resources.

A team of ten volunteers with consistent guidance from the faculty took up this initiative and worked relentlessly. The word was spread amongst the students of various courses held on campus like PGDM, MMS, MCA, part time courses as well as the faculty and institute administration.

The drive received an overwhelming response. More than Rs. 8,000 in cash along with a number of notebooks was received. The proceeds will be donated to two NGOS – ‘Help A Child Foundation’ and ‘Nareshwadi Learning Centre’, Dahanu. Help A Child aims to ensure higher education to young people by providing scholarships to highly motivated underprivileged students who have scored well in their studies (www.helpachild.in) . Nareshwadi Learning Centre nourishes the physical, intellectual, emotional as well as spiritual development of each child by providing an innovative education, caring home environment and fostering community involvement(www.nareshwadi.org).

SIFE Somaiya Social Cell, a student voluntary body at SIMSR is an initiative to help the less privileged people of society by involving them in various activities/developing their skill sets so as to help them earn their livelihood in a sustainable manner, thus. The students have been doing various projects like project Warli , project SAHAS , Project Fin-Lit to name a few and thereby focusing on social entrepreneurship.

Such small efforts go a long way towards improving literacy in the country and bridging the gap for those who can't afford the basic stationery needed to attend school.
