29TH September was a different day in the lives of many SVNITians.
The Joyfest" celebrating the Joy of Giving was organised with
the day starting off with volunteers distributing Lets GIVE
flyers to the much celebrated joggers community of the institute. garnering
a huge response in form of monetary and other donations.
The students then arranged for a luncheon for about 250 kids some of
whom were from a school for the differently abled and the others, the
kids of the construction workers in SVNIT campus.
The atmosphere was characterised by soft music, colourful balloons, smiles,
and lumps in throats.
One of the NIT students helping out said, I have no more complaints
left in my life anymore while another went on to say Joyfest
is a great initiative. I wish there would be more of such things around.
Giving made me unconditionally happy.
A movie was also screened for the kids, some of whom had never been to
a movie screening before. As Kung Fu Panda and Ek Bandar Hotel Ke Andar
played, the happiness was evident on their faces. A campus tour followed
by a Mentoring Session gave the SVNITians a chance to interact
with them and share life's experiences. Gifts were distributed which included
mass donations from the students and pre-conceived material by the team
members.
Then came the highlight of the event when an orchestra group comprising
of blind kids set the insti crowd in a mood of its own kind when
they played their music. The end was characterised by encore shouts and
standing ovations. The team donated a new congo to the blind
school orchestra team.
The event was organised by the Center for Human Resource Development cell
of the institute. The chief co-ordinators of the event, Nijeesh Padmanabhan
and Nirzaree Vadgama said Arranging for this event never put us
to fatigue of any sort. This was the most different fest our
institute has ever witnessed. We appeal to the whole of Surat to come
forward and give whatever they can to these people and treat us as the
facilitators for this initiative in Surat.
